Overview
The Department of Economics is committed to excellence in teaching and research. Our goal is to provide students with analytic skills and a breadth of economic understanding that prepares them for careers in business, government, or for further study in economics, law, or public policy. Our faculty are frequently honored with teaching awards, regularly publish in prestigious professional journals, and several serve as editors of professional journals.

Students in economics have multiple opportunities to participate in various groups and organized events, including:
At the undergraduate level, we offer a bachelor's degree in economics and one in international trade and finance through the E. J. Ourso College of Business and a bachelor's degree in economics through the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Students can choose a concentration in quantitative economics, and non-majors can obtain a formal minor in economics (through the College of Humanities and Social Sciences). The department is pleased to participate in the University’s Honors Program. At the graduate level, we offer MS and PhD degrees in economics and a Certificate in Econometrics.

Bachelor of Science in Economics
A 120-hour program with several learning objectives for students including identifying the role of supply and demand in a market economy and identifying the necessary conditions for market economies to function well.
Bachelor of Science in International Trade and Finance
A 120-hour program with several learning objectives for students including identifying policy options and their effectiveness and understanding importance of international relations to trade and finance.
Bachelor of Arts in Economics
A 120-hour program offered to students in the College of Humanities & Social Sciences. A minor in economics is also available in the College of Humanities & Social Sciences.
Master of Science in Financial Economics
The MSFE provides academically distinguished and industry-oriented students the opportunity to obtain a rigorous, graduate-level finance and economics education in an intensive 10-month program.
PhD in Economics
The PhD program is designed to train economists capable of adding to the knowledge of economics, doing independent research, and teaching at college or university levels.
Certificate in Econometrics
The certificate program has prerequisites of multivariate calculus and linear algebra and is open to graduate students at LSU and to non-traditional students from business, industry, and government.
