WorkRise, a research-to-action network on jobs, workers, and mobility hosted by the Urban Institute, has awarded $2.4 million in research grants to inform and drive action toward strengthening economic security and mobility for workers earning low-wages in the U.S. labor market, with an emphasis on addressing equity gaps affecting Black workers and other workers of color, immigrants, and women.

SDEIS Professor Young Chun Named a Runner-Up for Journal of Operational Research Society’s Goodeve Medal
BATON ROUGE- Stephenson Department of Entrepreneurship and Information Systems Professor Young H. Chun published a single-authored research paper in the Journal of the Operational Research Society in 2020 titled, “Information Economics Approach to the Performance Evaluation of Error-Prone Internal Auditors,” that was named one of three runners-up for the journal’s Goodeve Medal. The Goodeve Medal is awarded annually for the best paper published in the Journal of the Operational Society in the previous year.
Debtle Wins 2021 J Terrell Brown Venture Challenge
Debtle, cloud-based software that automates, improves, and simplifies the negotiation and settlement of overdue customer accounts, won the 2021 J Terrell Brown Venture Challenge. The first-place finish came with a $12,000 award.
SDEIS Professor Young H. Chun Secures $40,000 Research Grant from the U.S. Air Force
BATON ROUGE- SDEIS Professor Young H. Chun successfully secured a $40,000 research grant from the U.S. Air Force to conduct a groundbreaking study using military aircraft maintenance data. He will receive the grant money in monthly installments over a period of five months.

Department of Marketing and SDEIS Instructors Recognized by the Society of Marketing Advances
Jennifer Henderson, Amanda Ledet and Emory Serviss won Best Paper in the Business-to-Business track, as well as the Steven J. Shaw & Joe Hair Overall Conference Best Paper award, at the 2020 Society of Marketing Advances (SMA) annual conference for their research paper “Communication Alignment in Sales: The Role of Emotional Intelligence.”

Jared Llorens Named E. J. Ourso College of Business Permanent Dean
BATON ROUGE – LSU has named Jared Llorens as the dean of the E. J. Ourso College of Business. Llorens was appointed as interim dean in July 2020 after the initial search for the next dean was paused earlier this year due to the Novel Coronavirus pandemic.
SDEIS Professor’s Idea Selected for a LIFT2 Grant by LSU Board of Supervisors
BATON ROUGE– SDEIS professor Andy Schwarz proposed one of 18 new ideas that the LSU Board of Supervisors chose to support through its Leverage Innovation for Technology Transfer, or LIFT2, grants. Schwarz was awarded a $50,000 grant for his proposal titled “Making learning fun: Developing an interactive cybersecurity game for undergraduate education.” The board funded a total of $999,981.14 in the last fiscal year to provide a bridge over the critical gap between basic research and commercialization for university faculty.
SDEIS Instructor Recognized for Her Study of E-Waste
It did not take Jennifer Henderson long to hit her stride. As a first year Ph.D. student in the University of South Alabama Mitchell College of Business, her paper on supply chain marketing was named best in track--or topic of research--at the Association of Marketing Theory & Practice, an international academic marketing conference that blends academic theory and real-world marketing practices.

The endowment will provide ongoing funding for the newly renamed J Terrell Brown Venture Challenge, a student competition through which winners receive capital for new business ideas.

The LSU 100 is a highly competitive program that identifies, recognizes and celebrates the 100 fastest growing LSU graduate-owned or LSU graduate-led businesses in the world and the LSU ROARING 10 list recognizes and celebrates the ten highest revenue generating LSU graduate-owned or LSU graduate-led businesses. Companies must apply each year in order to be considered for either list.

2019 Entrepreneurship Fellows seek Experience and Networks

Entrepreneurship is seeing an opportunity and gathering the resources to turn a possibility into a reality. It represents the freedom to envision something new and to make it happen. It includes risk, but it also includes the reward of creating a legacy. The LSU Stephenson Department of Entrepreneurship & Information Systems offers the Entrepreneurship Fellows Program: a yearlong program fosters entrepreneurial-minded students by providing an intensive, high-quality educational experience to a select cohort of undergraduate and graduate students at LSU. Any LSU student may apply and fellows are chosen through a competitive application process.
Stephenson Entrepreneurship Scholarships Awarded
By offsetting the costs associated with earning additional credits, the Stephenson Entrepreneurship Scholarship removes a barrier for deserving students pursuing a BS in entrepreneurship from the LSU E. J. Ourso College of Business. This scholarship opportunity is designed to encourage students to put in the extra time and effort required to complete the entrepreneurship paired degree program (BS/BA first degree + BS Entrepreneurship) at LSU.
Narayanan appointed Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Outreach
BATON ROUGE - Rajesh P. Narayanan has been selected as the new associate dean for academic affairs and outreach in the Office of the Dean at the E. J. Ourso College of Business. Timothy Chandler, who previously held the position, has been named associate dean for undergraduate programs and assessment. Narayanan is also the chair of the E. J. Ourso College of Business’s Department of Finance and he will continue that role for the next year.
Richard White Jr. to Retire as LSU Business Dean
BATON ROUGE – Richard D. White Jr. will step down as dean of the LSU E. J. Ourso College of Business at the end of this academic year. White has served in this role since 2012. His retirement will be effective in June 2020.

Ask Sarah Schneider, a senior majoring in information sciences and decision sciences with a minor in analytics, to explain how data science applies to the business world, and you might expect a dry, complex, or esoteric answer. But Schneider breaks it down beautifully: “Business is really just people communicating and transacting with each other,” she explained. “I analyze large amounts of a company’s data and help them understand how to use it more efficiently to enhance their communications and transactions. This helps the company perform better or find prospects they were looking for but couldn’t see. I’m like a business detective.”
LSU Graduate Manages IT Customer Experience in Latin America for ExxonMobil
SU graduate Ashleigh McCord's connection to computers started when she was a little girl. She received her first computer from her grandfather when she was three and McCord's parents worked with computers and IT. Today, McCord is the IT Customer Experience Manager for Latin America at ExxonMobil.
Ten Business Students Named to SEC 2018-19 Winter Honor Roll
BIRMINGHAM, AL – Out of 37 LSU student-athletes named to the 2018-19 Winter SEC Academic Honor Roll, 10 of them are E. J. Ourso College of Business students. The 2018-19 Winter SEC Academic Honor Roll is based on grades posted from the 2018 Spring, Summer and Fall terms.
Six Straight Years of Record-Breaking Graduating Classes for LSU
BATON ROUGE – SEC Professor of the Year Gabriela González delivered the keynote address, and LSU graduated its largest and most diverse class ever at the university’s 298th commencement exercises on Friday, May 10. At the spring commencement ceremony, a record 4,442 degrees were awarded. The overall class of 2018-19 – students receiving degrees in previous summer and fall commencements combined with the current spring commencement – saw 7,047 degrees awarded, the highest in any academic year ever.

Revibe Wins 2019 Venture Challenge
Revibe, a music streaming and sharing application, won the 2019 Venture Challenge. The first place finish came with a $12,000 award. The ninth Annual Venture Challenge business plan/pitch competition is open to all LSU students with existing businesses or business ideas. Three student entrepreneurs pitched their business ideas in the final round for a share of $25,000 in startup cash.

Three LSU student businesses have been selected to present in a live pitch competition for a share of $25,000 in the ninth annual Venture Challenge April 23 at Tin Roof Brewery from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. The event is open to the public.
LSU Professors explore the link between Politics and Entrepreneurship
Louis-Philippe Beland, assistant professor in the Department of Economics, and Bulent Untel, associate professor and director of Graduate Studies – PhD Program in the Department of Economics, at LSU’s E. J. Ourso College of Business, recently published a research paper exploring politics and entrepreneurship in the United States in the Canadian Journal of Economics.
LSU Alumnus Appointed Chief Procurement Officer of Coca-Cola Bottlers’ Sales and Services
Suzana Keller, LSU College of Business alumnus, has been named Chief Procurement Officer for Coca-Cola Bottlers’ Sales & Services Company (CCBSS) effective March 4, 2019. Keller will have further accountability to the Bottler Procurement Advisory Committee and the CCBSS board of directors.
SEI Announces New Executive Director
Kenny Anderson has been named the executive director of the Stephenson Entrepreneurship Institute (SEI). The Stephenson Entrepreneurship Institute promotes and fosters entrepreneurial practices through education, outreach and research, hosts the Entrepreneurship Fellows Program and manages the Tiger Den Incubator. Franz Lohrke has been serving as the interim director since former director, Bob Justis, retired and received Professor Emeritus status.
Baton Rouge StartUp Weekend Returning to LSU
The Stephenson Entrepreneurship Institute organizes StartupWeekend Baton Rouge in pursuit of better experiential learning for LSU students and the local community. As the name suggests, StartupWeekend is a Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday commitment to sharing ideas, discovering opportunities, and taking a step toward a launching a business. This year, the event will start at 4:30 p.m. Friday, March 15, at the Business Education Complex (BEC) and end at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, March 17.
LSU’s National Diversity Case Competition Team Places Runner-Up
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – A team from LSU’s Diversity and Inclusion in the Office of Business Student Success placed runner-up at the 2019 National Diversity Case Competition (NDCC) at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business. The competition is held annually the weekend before Martin Luther King Jr. Day and brings together some of the best and most diverse talent in undergraduate education from across the country. This was the eighth year for the event, which took place Jan. 18-19. Nearly 170 business students from 42 teams competed – up from 35 teams last year.

LSU Flores MBA Program Offers One-Year MBA to Undergraduate Business Majors
BATON ROUGE - The LSU Flores MBA Program has launched a one-year MBA track that’s geared toward students who hold an undergraduate business degree from an accredited institution. Beginning in June, this new one-year MBA format will allow students to complete the MBA degree in just 11 months.
MS Analytics Student Named 2019 SAS Global Forum Student Ambassador
BATON ROUGE - Master of Analytics student Lauren Agrigento of Chicago, IL has been named a 2019 SAS® Global Forum Student Ambassador by the SAS Institute, an American multinational developer of analytics software based in Cary, North Carolina. She is the third LSU student to be named a SAS® Global Forum Student Ambassador since 2013.
