Remote Work Support
In addition to required steps for approving and documenting remote work, supervisors may ask students to do the following:
Remote Work Weekly Report and Reflection Form - Supervisors may ask students to submit this form weekly as a way to reflect on their work and track tasks to completion.
- Assign relevant courses from LinkedIn Learning’s free learning path of 16 courses to help employees stay connected and enhance productivity during this time of remote work.
Professional and Personal Development
- Student Employee Professional Development Program
The purpose of the Student Employee Professional Development Program is to create valuable modules, resources, and conversation topics for Student Employment Partners (SEPs) to provide their student workers throughout the academic year. We will focus on how student’s positions develop transferable skills and how to effectively communicate them. Students will also learn how to prepare for the transition from college to career. SEPs will receive monthly emails containing details of what modules/resources are being highlighted that month.
- Please direct your student employees to enroll in the free, not-for-credit online
course by following the steps below:
- Use your LSU credentials to log into Moodle.
- From the home page, scroll to the bottom and enter “Olinde Career Center On-Campus Student Employee Professional Development Series” in the search box.
- On the next screen, click the enroll option.
- Our hope is each student employee will be able to work through these modules as part
of their assigned duties. If they are not able to complete the modules during their
assigned shift, you may consider approving up to two hours of remote work for students to work through the modules from home. We hope
that your students find value in these resources and the foundation they will lay
for future development modules.

- Please direct your student employees to enroll in the free, not-for-credit online course by following the steps below:
- Career Development Module Workbooks - The LSU Olinde Career Center is preparing modules focused on career exploration
and development that can be completed by a student at any stage of their academic
journey. We will be adding more modules to this section in late-March 2020.
- Download Module 1: Research Careers - Students take free assessments to understand their interests, values, and personality as they relate to potential careers. Students dive deeper into those potential careers to determine a short-list of careers that could be a good fit for them.
- Download Module 2: Market Yourself - Students take inventory of the skills they currently have, identify the specific situations in which they developed those skills, and are coached through building a résumé using this information.
- Download Module 3: Plan for the Future - Students identify specific skills required for their careers of interest, and set goals to develop those skills through a variety of experiences including student organizations, volunteer opportunities, academics, student employment, and internships.
Complete Transit financial literacy training
- Complete the My Student Body Essentials course
- Wellness and Success Course: 3 modules (Alcohol and Other Drugs, Balance and Priorities, and College Community) with corresponding "rate myself" questionnaires.
A student employee who is thriving academically is often able to maintain high levels of focus and productivity during work-hours as they are less anxious about the school-work waiting for them after their shift. Consider supporting your student employee academically by having them:
- Complete the 6 available modules of the Center for Academic Success Learning Journey - submit names of students who would be given this option and what deadline (if any) to CAS to help expedite completion verification
Office Improvement Tasks
Assign tasks that allow your student employee to improve the overall workings of your office or department. This type of experience allows the student to leave a legacy in your office by improving functionality, and often results in immediate and actionable results.
Your student employee could:
- Draft or update a student employee manual or training schedule for the office (particularly beneficial for front desk staff.)
- Draft or update a staff directory with pictures and title/email/responsibilities that can be a reference for new student workers.
- Draft a Qualtrics survey for student workers to complete prior to termination which focuses on the student’s experience and if the work provided them beneficial professional experience.
- Complete a website audit (page by page): proof read the page, make notes on anything that may need editing, what’s missing, whether navigation is user friendly, and document any broken links.
- Website benchmark research: Identify peer universities, visit the congruent dept website, document ideas that are interesting and could enhance your site.
Performance Evaluation Process
