Intersession/Summer Sessions & BoRSF Info
Wednesday, April 1, 2020; 5:00 p.m.
Dear Faculty and Staff,
We have two important updates for you regarding Intersession and Summer Session courses and the Board of Regents Support Fund. Please see below.
Intersession and Summer Session Courses
As you know, scheduling is already under way for Spring Intersession, Summer Session, and Summer Intersession. Given the uncertainty we are facing about the recommended timelines for social distancing, it is difficult to plan for the future, but we must. We have made the difficult decision to move Spring Intersession, both Summer Sessions, and Summer Intersession to an online format. Making this decision now gives our faculty a chance to plan, and our students a chance to make decisions about the types of courses they want to take before scheduling closes and before fee bills go out.
Faculty who teach Intersession and Summer Session courses will receive additional information as we finalize details. And we will continue to provide support for faculty who move their courses to an online format. We want to ensure that the Intersessions and Summer Sessions are as robust as ever, and that our students are able to remain on track for graduation. I know you will rise to this challenge as you have risen to the others we are already overcoming.
Thank you for your perseverance as we continue our core mission of educating students. All the time and energy you are putting into this mission is deeply appreciated.
Commissioner of Higher Education Kim Hunter Reed has released a few important updates related to the Board of Regents Support Fund:
- Consultant reports for competitive programs are expected to be posted online by Thursday, April 2. (See following link:https://web.laregents.org/downloads_page/consultant-reports/). These consultant recommendations are expected be voted on at the April 22 Board of Regents meeting, which will still take place virtually.
- In light of current circumstances, BoR policies regarding unspent earnings by June 30 (i.e. chairs and professorships spendable balances) will not be enforced this year.
- For BoR Support Fund contracts (i.e. Departmental Enhancement Program or Research & Development Program), no-cost extensions for existing contracts will be automatic but will require contract amendments. Requests for budget adjustments will be reviewed and approved on an individual basis. LSU’s Office of Sponsored Programs will reach out to principal investigators to facilitate the process. Contact email@example.com for any questions.
