Biography

Sue Weinstein is the MacCurdy Distinguished Professor of English at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, where she works in English Education and New Literacy Studies. Dr. Weinstein also serves as President of the Board of Directors for Humanities Amped, the critical pedagogy nonprofit in Baton Rouge. She has published 2 books with State University of New York (SUNY) Press. Her 2019 book is The Room Is on Fire: The History, Practice, and Pedagogy of Youth Spoken Word Poetry. Her 2009 book, Feel These Words: Writing in the Lives of Urban Youth, grew out of her work at a Chicago alternative high school. Before entering graduate school at the University of Illinois at Chicago, Sue was a high school English teacher in Chicago, IL and in Cochabamba, Bolivia. She is originally from Philadelphia, PA.
