TIGER Check COVID-19 Monitoring System

All students, faculty and staff will continue to receive the Daily Symptom Checker each day. Please continue to monitor any COVID-19 symptoms. The Daily Symptom Checker is a self-monitoring tool. If you test positive for COVID-19, you are required to report this using the Daily Symptom Checker. 

According to the CDC, testing, contact tracing, and isolation are among the effective ways to manage COVID-19. LSU’sTIGER Check COVID-19 Monitoring System, helps slow the spread and protect the campus community from this virus, including daily symptom checking, COVID-19 testing, and contact tracing. The TIGER in TIGER Check is an acronym to help remember the following steps:

  • Track symptoms
  • Isolate
  • Get tested
  • Exercise caution
  • Report positive cases

Everyone should participate in the following steps to enable the efficient identification and swift containment of potential COVID-19 outbreaks. Bookmark this page at lsu.edu/roadmap/monitoring for the latest information on these steps.

Step 1: Daily Symptom Checking

Members of the LSU community should self-monitor  symptoms daily. The daily symptom checker will be sent via text message or email to LSU community members. The daily symptom checker asks respondents to take a one-to two-minute assessment of their symptoms. Once respondents have provided information about their symptoms, they will be provided with feedback. Although completing the checker daily is not required, employees and students are always required to report their positive cases to the university through the TIGER Check system. The LSU community is encouraged to use the system to help monitor their symptoms.

A guide to using the TIGER Check Daily Symptom Checker:

Beginning August 11, 2021 all students and employees will receive a daily email from Qualtrics (noreply@ qemailserver.com). Emails will be sent to your LSU.edu email address. Please check your junk mail if you do not see this email in your inbox. Employees and students are required to report their positive cases to the university through the Tigercheck system.

You will be asked a short list of questions to help you monitor how you are feeling and report if you have tested positive for COVID-19. 

You will receive the Daily Symptom Checker every morning.

Once you complete the Daily Symptom Checker, you will receive an email/text stating whether you are authorized to come on campus based on your responses. 

You do not need to login to the Daily Symptom Checker, but you will use your LSU Single Sign-On (SSO), which is what you use to login to myLSU, to complete it. 

Any staff or student who tests positive for COVID-19 should report their positive test in LSU’s Daily Symptom Checker and should isolate at home according to current CDC guidelines. If possible, stay away from others, especially people who are at a higher risk for getting very sick from COVID-19.

If you have severe or mild symptoms related to COVID-19, you must wait to come on campus until your symptom(s) subside. Each day, you will complete the Daily Symptom Checker, so if your symptoms subside, you can select as such and be certified to come back on campus.

If you are an employee, you must inform your supervisor of your absence. 

If you are a student, you will also be asked to contact all your instructors to inform them of your absence. Your instructors must provide you with the material in an online and accessible format for you to stay on track or make up any work necessary for your courses. You should also avoid close contact with others.

If you are a student living on campus, you will be advised to contact your Resident Coordinator if you are not approved to come to campus.

You can report your positive test result in the Daily Symptom Checker. The first question in the Daily Symptom Checker asks if you have tested positive in the last 10 days. Additionally, you can report if you have tested negative or are awaiting test results.

All faculty, students, and staff will receive the Daily Symptom Checker each day. Employees and students are required to report their positive cases to the university through the Tigercheck system. 

The Daily Symptom Checker helps you monitor your symptoms and provides guidance when you report that you have tested positive or have been in close contact with someone who tests positive.

Employees and students are no longer required to use it on a daily basis to check their symptoms. Many people at this point know the symptoms related to COVID. However, some still use it to help monitor their symptoms and gauge if it’s safe for them to come to campus. Employees and students are required to report their positive cases to the university through the Tigercheck system. 

Step 2: COVID-19 Testing

Testing for SARS COVID-19 is a critical component of keeping everyone safe and healthy. Faculty, staff, and students should get tested for the virus if they have symptoms associated with COVID-19 or have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. To ensure the health and safety of the LSU community, it is essential that everyone is aware of the testing opportunities that are available through their health care provider, the Student Health Center, and in the community.

Anyone who tests positive should follow the COVID-19 isolation and quarantine protocols. LSU faculty, staff, and students who test positive for COVID-19 are required to report their results in their daily symptom checker application. Once a respondent has indicated that they have tested positive for COVID-19, they will be prompted to fill out a contact tracing form. LSU will not release the name or personal information of a COVID-19 positive case or close contact.

LSU faculty, staff, and students who test positive for COVID-19, whether symptomatic or asymptomatic, should report their results in their daily symptom checker application.

Step 3: Contact Tracing

Contact tracing plays an important role in slowing the spread of COVID-19. Consequently, once someone reports a positive test result for COVID-19, they will be required to provide information about the people who they have been in close contact with. At LSU, contact tracing is done through an automated system where respondents can input this information through a web-based application. If additional information is needed or someone does not provide this information, they will be contacted.

Step 4: Identifying Contacts

LSU affiliates who were identified as being close contacts of a person who has tested positive, will be notified via email or by phone. They will be directed to reach out to their healthcare provider and follow the LSU COVID-19 Protocol. 

If someone within the LSU community who tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 5 days forgot to identify you as a close contact, you will subsequently not receive a notification about being a close contact. Therefore, you must self-report using the Daily Symptom Checker.

Additionally, if you were in close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19 outside of the LSU community (i.e., family, friends, neighbors, etc) in the past 5 days, you must self-report using the Daily Symptom Checker.
