Hours of Operation
The Small Animal Emergency Service is currently experiencing personnel shortages. In an effort to preserve the health and wellbeing of our staff and patients that are currently hospitalized, ER services will be scaled back as follows starting on Saturday, February 5:
Saturdays, 7:30 a.m. through Mondays, 7:30 a.m.
Referring DVMs
Incoming cases from veterinarians should be approved referrals only. ECC faculty will discuss cases with referring DVMs. Please call 225-578-9600 to discuss an emergency referral.
Walk-in cases
Cases brought directly to LSU Vet Med by pet owners that are stable will be directed
to other local ER services.
Unstable patients brought in by pet owners will be seen and stabilized.
During working hours, all patients will be triaged. Stable patients may be asked to defer examination to the following morning or be diverted to another facility for treatment. Our overall hospital operations continue.
The Large Animal Emergency Service will continue to operate normally, 24/7.
We apologize for any inconvenience and for the disruption in service. However, we ask for your understanding during this critical time.

LSU Sporting Events
The Veterinary Teaching Hospital remains open during LSU sporting events. If you need to bring your pet to the hospital on a home football game day, we advise you to take River Road to Skip Bertman Drive. We reserve spots in our parking lot for our clients and tow those people who park there who are not bringing an animal to the hospital. If there is a police officer at the corner of River Road and Skip Bertman Drive, tell him that you're taking an animal to the hospital, and he or she will let you through. Call 225-578-9600 if you are not allowed access.
