Director's Welcome

Welcome to the LSU School of Social Work! We have been educating professionals, generating knowledge, and serving the community for over 80 years.

Our school has grown from a traditional Master of Social Work (MSW) program into a unit that also offers an online MSW program option, a PhD program, a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program, and undergraduate and master’s degrees in Child & Family Studies.  The school now serves over 800 students from across the country and the world. Our faculty produces scholarship with real-world impact by addressing critical topics such as Alzheimer’s disease care, addictions, Black families, bullying, child welfare, employment, healthy aging, health disparities, health and mental health, homelessness, immigration, internet technology and low resource communities, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people, refugee resettlement, social capital, and social work in schools. The school also fulfills LSU’s land-grant mission by actively engaging the community through continuing education opportunities for social workers and partnerships with many organizations. Our students and graduates impact their local communities through field internships and employment in organizations on the front lines of the most pressing social problems of the day.

We invite you to join us in our work to improve lives and promote social justice.
