Brief Biography
Dr. Kim's overarching research program explores the interconnections between mental health and health risk behaviors among populations excluded from opportunities, especially youth, immigrants, and refugees. Particularly, her research addresses behavioral health differences and identifies salient risk and protective factors to achieve equal health/mental health outcomes for all people while exploring pathways to enhanced resilience and improved well-being. Dr. Kim has worked with children and youth in school contexts, addressing differences in behavioral health access for children and adolescents across communities with limited resources. Dr. Kim's community-engaged research has addressed the inextricable link between financial empowerment and mental well-being. Over the course of her academic career, Dr. Kim has been involved in developing and implementing community and school-based interventions for youth and refugee groups that address risky health-related behaviors in a way that demonstrates respect for them and their cultures.
