Academic Goals for the Department of Textiles, Apparel Design, and Merchandising

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the baccalaureate degree, students in Textiles, Apparel Design and Merchandising are expected to: 

SLO 1: Communication & Critical/Creative Thinking: Be able to demonstrate competence in written, verbal and visual communication with the ability to critically evaluate and compare diverse perspectives. They will be able to combine existing ideas and original thought in imaginative ways to produce work characterized by a high degree of innovative thinking. 

SLO 2: Textiles & Apparel Product Knowledge: Understand and be able to apply knowledge of the functions of the textile and apparel industry sectors in which products are developed, produced, marketed, sold and consumed, including materials, design, construction, innovation and sustainability.

SLO 3: Textiles & Apparel Industry & Business Knowledge: Understand the roles and functions of the textile and apparel complex including retail operations, brand, trade and economic concepts, and textile and apparel production processes. 

SLO 4: Technology Proficiency: Be able to apply quantitative measures, and use appropriate technology to facilitate problem solving in the textile and apparel complex and be able to utilize current computer software applications.
