Louisiana Classroom Teacher Enrollment Program (CTEP)

The Louisiana Classroom Teacher Enrollment Program (CTEP), which, if several stipulations are met, allows classroom teachers to attend Louisiana’s public colleges and universities tuition-free (the teacher must pay all other fees) on a space-available basis. It requires that classroom teachers participating in CTEP during any school year must practice as teachers in Louisiana's elementary or secondary schools for at least the subsequent school year.

Prior to completing the CTEP application, please visit the Board of Regents webpage and thoroughly read the program guidelines.

Important Restrictions

  • You must apply and be admitted into the University – either as a degree-seeking or non-matriculating.
  • Do not add the course(s) to your schedule yourself. CTEP operates on a space-available basis. Once the last day to add has passed, eligible students will be added to the course if there are seats available. Adding the course(s) on your own will result in you not being able to use CTEP funds.
  • CTEP cannot be used for the following course types:
  • Practicums
  • Independent Study courses
  • Thesis & dissertation courses
  • The course should lead to an education degree/certification area or increase the content knowledge of the subject area currently being taught by the applicant.
  • Course enrollment is limited to 6 semester hours per semester (spring, fall, and summer)
  • CTEP applications must be submitted before the last day to add courses for the semester in which you intend to take the course(s).

Completed applications and any questions can be submitted to CTEP@lsu.edu.

Additional School of Education Steps

  • Discuss CTEP with your major professor or advisor
  • Obtain a copy of the CTEP guidelines and application from the Board of Regents website
  • Follow the procedures on the Board of Regents website to have the application signed by your Employing Authority
  • Submit the completed application from the district-issued email to CTEP@lsu.edu.
    • Submit the completed form anytime before the final drop/add date. Applications are processed in the order they are received.
    • Do not add the course(s) to your schedule yourself. CTEP operates on a space-available basis. Once the last day to add has passed, eligible students will be added to the course if there are seats available. Adding the course(s) on your own will result in you not being able to use CTEP funds.
    • If the course is full, you will not be added even if eligible for CTEP.
  • Send an email to the professor of record, notifying them of your intent, and obtain the syllabus and initial readings/assignments so you will not fall behind due to the CTEP lag time in registration. Monitor course enrollment and decide if CTEP is an option for you.
  • Any questions can be submitted to CTEP@lsu.edu
  • Send the Registrar's CTEP email notification of the accepted application to the instructor of record as soon as it is received.
  • Once you have been notified by the Registrar that you have been added to the course, complete registration for your course.
