Why did the Division name change?
The Division's name was changed to better represent our continuous dedication and commitment to serving the LSU community. Given the proactive nature of our efforts, we believe in fostering a collaborative partnership with community members to promote student success and ensure equal opportunities for all students, faculty, and staff. This name change reflects the dynamic impact that our division has across LSU's campus.
What does “engagement” mean?
Engagement means many things to many people. For us, it represents a dynamic and reciprocal process that facilitates meaningful participation from all parties involved. It entails actively exchanging perspectives, sharing experiences, exploring potential solutions, and collaboratively delivering services that uplift our state.

The Division of Engagement, Civil Rights, and Title IX is a strategic and collaborative team that plays a crucial role in enhancing the experiences of all stakeholders, resulting in an engaged campus and student success. It has a significant impact on the student experience through the promotion of strategic initiatives that prioritize student safety, health, leadership development, career and workforce development, and access to education.
Additionally, the Division is responsible for enforcing civil rights laws, including Title IX and the Americans with Disabilities Act. Through collaboration with various stakeholders, the Division issues policy guidance and conducts outreach activities to ensure compliance with civil rights laws and improve the overall experience of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and other stakeholders.

How are existing diversity and inclusion programs and initiatives to function moving forward?
From a community perspective: We host various celebrations of cultures and communities, such as MLK Legacy Day and Women's History Month, along with other opportunities for students to connect and gain insights from a multitude of perspectives. We welcome events and programs that promote inclusion and celebrate different cultures and communities. LSU remains committed to contributing to the development of a workforce that values the insights and perspectives of individuals from various backgrounds. Therefore, we will continue to collaborate with industry and community partners to cultivate a next generation workforce that embraces the unique experiences of our students.
From a student perspective: There are student organizations dedicated to serving and representing specific communities, such as the Latin American Student Association or first-generation students. These organizations actively engage with the campus community and may collaborate with campus offices to foster a sense of community and solidarity. LSU supports all students' desire to engage, learn, and grow together.
From a faculty perspective: Faculty members have access to numerous professional development opportunities offered on campus and through their professional organizations. They also have the option to join the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity. Additionally, LSU's position allows for significant impact in the realms of education, research, and service. Therefore, faculty members are encouraged to pursue research, data collection, and classroom experiences that align with the topics being taught.
