​Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Nu Psi Chapter was chartered on May 22, 1978 on the campus of Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The charter members of this historic chapter, also known as Phase One, are: David Henly, Dennis Kimble, Jerry Power, Ronald Wade, Leroid Jones, Michael Joubert and Dock Voorhies. Sinceit was chartered, the chapter has taken pride in hosting numerous community service projects and various programs on and off the campus, all while maintaining high grade point averages and being campus leaders. The chapter also possesses a spirit of excellence. Nu Psi has won Chapter of the Year Awards in 1990, 1991, and 1996. It has also continuously won the Order of Omega Award since its inception and have won the Louisiana District Stroll-Off Competition for three years in row, and previously won the Collegiate Scholars’ Bowl, Debate Competition,  Oratorical contest and Step Show competition a number of times at the District, Regional and National levels.  

In addition, Nu Psi is assisted by its advisory alumni chapter Xi Nu Lambda which has been represented mostly by the legendary, Hall of Fame Alpha Brother and longest serving Chapter Advisor and Area Director and Chief Dean, Life Member Brother Alvin J. Cavalier.
