Today's industries demand leaders who can bridge the gap between technical innovation and business strategy. The Industrial Engineering / Master of Business Administration (IE/MBA) program is designed to meet this need, providing a unique fast track to leadership roles at the intersection of engineering and business.
The IE/MBA program allows high-achieving students pursuing a Bachelor of Science of Industrial Engineering (BSIE) degree in the LSU College of Engineering to also get an early start on pursuing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in the E. J. Ourso College of Business, through coursework which counts towards both degree programs.
More than just adding a credential, the IE/MBA program equips you with a unique skillset: the ability to analyze complex challenges, develop innovative solutions, and make strategic decisions that drive both technical excellence and business success.

- Get a Head Start:
The IE/MBA program is a unique programming path which allows undergraduate students pursuing the LSU College of Engineering's Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering (BSIE) to get a head start on earning their Flores MBA during their senior year through an Accelerated Masters program. - Apply MBA Courses Towards Your Engineering Program:
Students can earn up to nine credit hours of MBA 7000-level coursework, which apply towards the technical elective requirement in the BSIE undergraduate curriculum. - Start Your Career Sooner:
Students admitted to the Accelerated Masters program are awarded their BSIE during their fourth year, followed by their MBA during their fifth year of study. Pursuing these degrees independently would take six or more years to complete.
Curriculum & Program Structure
Students in the IE/MBA program initially follow the BSIE degree plan on an accelerated timeline, typically completing core requirements by the end of their junior year. This can be accomplished through advanced placement and enrolling in summer courses.
During their senior year, BSIE students may enter the Accelerated Masters program and begin taking up to nine (9) credit hours of introductory MBA courses, which additionally count as electives towards the requirements of the BSIE. Students then apply to the Flores MBA program for full entry. After graduating with their BSIE, students complete their MBA over the course of a fifth year.
Please note that, unlike BSIE coursework, Flores MBA courses follow the Accelerated Sessions academic calendar, which divides each semester into two modules.

The optional global immersion experience takes place during spring break between modules 1 and 2. This experience can serve as your elective course, replacing the elective in Summer Module 2.
BADM 7020 – Managerial Statistics
A significant challenge facing managers is the interpretation of vast amounts of data
generated in the world of business today. This course offers a framework for using
statistics to analyze problems and interpret data. A major focus includes data analysis,
statistical models, design, and analysis of experiments and basic probabilities to
make appropriate inferences and sound decisions in uncertain conditions. This course
introduces several analytical methods with a mix of data preparation and modeling
techniques to solve managerial problems.
BADM 7030 – Financial Accounting
Financial statements are fundamental data for all organizations. This course explores
the principles and practices of financial accounting by studying concepts and processes
that underlie corporate financial statements. A major course goal includes analyzing
corporate financial statements for financial reporting processes and firm performance.
Topics include ethical responsibility to consumers of corporate financial information
and financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and statement
of cash flow.
BADM 7060 – Elements of Cost Management
Managerial accounting helps stakeholders evaluate internal economic conditions and
make organizational decisions to improve performance. It also provides an important
toolkit for developing a competitive advantage by understanding a firm’s cost structure.
This course examines cost accounting and management practices, emphasizing methods
to determine the cost structure and its impact on pricing decisions and firm profitability.
BADM 7070 - Understanding Behavior in Organizations
Rooted in psychology and social psychology, organizational behavior seeks to understand,
explain, predict, and influence the behavior of individuals and groups. This course
focuses on three key dynamics that affect individual and group behavior within organizations:
individual, interpersonal, and collective dynamics. Through this focus, three central
goals emerge:
- To understand and analyze why and how people - individually and collectively - do the things they do at work.
- To apply these OB concepts to real-world challenges and problems in working with others.
- To enhance managerial and leadership potential.
BADM 7090 – Financial Management
Finance is the study of acquiring and allocating financial resources and determining
how to create wealth and value for managers, financial analysts, stockholders, and
creditors, among other key stakeholders. This course explores core ideas and principles
that underlie modern finance theory and opportunities to apply theory to financial
decision-making. The course also examines the role of corporate financial policy,
including functions of capital markets and financial institutions, cost of capital,
cash flow projections, capital management, and dividend policy, among other related
areas.
BADM 7100 – Marketing Management
Marketing generates and grows demand for an organization’s brands, products, and services.
This course explores the concepts and tools of marketing and related business functions
to create and deliver value to customers and stakeholders. It examines real-world
marketing problems and offers learning frameworks to apply decision tools for marketing
analysis. Important topics include marketing strategy, consumer behavior, customer
value analysis, market opportunities, pricing, promotion, and distribution of ideas,
goods, and services.
BADM 7190 – Strategic Management
A strategy is an integrated set of choices about how an organization will achieve
its mission and objectives – a plan for how to compete. An organization’s strategy
must permeate all departments and functional areas. This course explores how an organization
achieves and sustains a high level of success (competitive advantage) and the general
manager’s role in this process. The course also examines contemporary approaches to
developing and maintaining a competitive advantage in global competition. Topics include
competition for competence, strategy, and technology, managing home and host government
relations, cooperative strategy, strategic alliances, organizational innovation, and
managing global strategic change.
BADM 7200 – Economic Environment of the Firm
Business decisions related to production, employment, and investment depend much on
the general course of the economy. This course develops a framework to analyze how
changes in economic policies affect key economic variables, such as GDP, the unemployment
rate, the inflation rate, interest rates, and exchange rates. This course will also
examine market characteristics and economic environments in which businesses operate
and analyze firm behavior in response to changes in demand and cost conditions.
BADM 7601 – Leadership Essentials
Leadership is a broad concept with different meanings and varying interpretations,
yet it is one of the most critical functions affecting the success (and failure) of
individuals, organizations, and businesses. This course will focus on leadership as
an essential practice for professionals at all levels, irrespective of title, and
explore the contemporary skills needed for personal and professional success. This
course integrates applied learning activities, robust discussions, critical self-reflection,
and peer collaboration projects to help you explore, experience, practice, and advance
your skills as an effective, agile leader within today’s dynamic and diverse business
environments.
BADM 7160 – Negotiations
Business success requires collaboration and agreement with other people. To achieve
that end, negotiation skills are necessary. Success also requires heightened sensitivity
to potential ethical issues. This course is designed to enable students to become
more effective negotiators and ethical decision-makers through exposure to theory
and sound practice tenets.
BADM 7270 – Digital Marketing
The proliferation of the internet, social media, and mobile channels are revolutionizing
marketing techniques worldwide. Leveraging digital media becomes increasingly important
in the dawning post-pandemic marketplace. This course is intended to provide students
with cutting-edge expertise to keep pace by focusing on the internet, social media,
and mobile marketing techniques. By the end of the term, students acquired the knowledge,
skills, and experience to conduct a marketing campaign in each of these cutting-edge
mediums.
BADM 7270 – Entrepreneurship
Principles of thinking like an entrepreneur and planning for new product/service success
by understanding the value proposition and what customers really want. This is accomplished
by implementing proven techniques used in the creation of the Business Model Canvas.
This course will focus on the entrepreneurial mindset and the challenges facing those
who want to create their own business. Topics during this course include value mapping,
visual thinking, customer discovery, business model design, and small business management,
among other related areas.
BADM 7270 – Healthcare Policy and Analysis
This course examines the health policy process in the formulation-implementation-evaluation
framework. The political, economic, and legal aspects of health policy issues will
be covered. Students will analyze the case of the Patient Protection and Accountable
Care Act (PPACA) to recognize the impact of PPACA on citizens, businesses, and institutions.
BADM 7270 – Healthcare Quality Management
This course is designed to provide you with the knowledge and the tools necessary
to conduct and lead quality management initiatives in healthcare organizations. Students
will be introduced to the theoretical aspects of quality management; the measures
of quality assessment; the patient safety tools; the external and internal forces
that drive quality improvement; and the evaluation of quality management initiatives
in healthcare organizations.
BADM 7270 – Leadership and Governance in Healthcare
This course is designed to provide the students with the tools and competencies necessary
in participating and leading quality improvement initiatives in healthcare organizations.
Students are introduced to the philosophical and theoretical underpinning of quality
improvement in healthcare, the measures of quality assessment, various risk management
and patient safety tools commonly used in quality improvement initiatives, and the
external and internal forces that drive quality improvement in healthcare.
BADM 7270 – Project Management for the Agile Leader
This course is non-industry specific and includes a thorough understanding of using
agile as a practical and valuable tool as a business leader. The course explores how
agile should work, how to avoid pitfalls, and the importance of scaling an agile transformation
successfully across the organization and enterprise. Moreover, we will seek to learn
the significance of balancing operations and driving innovation in the unpredictable
and customer-focused digital age. We will also explore the challenges, opportunities,
and interpersonal dynamics affecting our capacity as agile business leaders and teammates.
BADM 7401 – Cybersecurity
The ability to create a secure organizational environment is a growing challenge confronting
today’s modern organization. As the security threats facing companies change to be
more sophisticated, management can no longer hope to secure their enterprise without
a systematic plan. Effective enterprise security management requires participation
from all the stakeholders in the organization, embedding planning for security into
the firm’s culture, and practicing for the persistent threats facing the firm. While
most managers view cybersecurity and the corresponding threats is strictly an IT problem,
the reality is that cybersecurity threats are a joint problem between the business
and IT that requires commitment, understanding, and training in all aspects of the
organization. This course is designed to teach all managers how to create a response
to cybersecurity threats from an integrated perspective that will enable a firm to
be secure in the modern era.
BADM 7402 – Artificial Intelligence for Business
How to embrace and utilize the power of artificial intelligence (AI) is a growing
challenge confronting today’s modern organization. As this technology becomes more
commonplace and powerful, management can no longer afford to neglect the potential
of this innovation to transform how we do business. This course is meant for students
who want to learn the basics of AI and how AI can be applied to business. We will
go through the mathematical and programming background of how AI algorithms work and
look at how AI is being applied within the modern enterprise through examples of use
cases where AI produced measurable ROI. We will conclude by building an AI solution
that has business value by going through the “concept to implementation” process.
This course teaches all managers to apply AI within a business to enable a firm to
deliver on the promise of this innovative technology.
BADM 7403 – Cloud Strategy
The era of cloud computing is now upon us. As the need for organizational flexibility
and decentralization of business decisions has evolved, so has the need for computing
resources to be available on-demand in a scalable environment to enable the platformed
economy. The cloud is being adopted in organizations of all sizes and industries.
With it has come the need for every business executive and manager to understand how
to create a cloud strategy. By the end of the course, students should be able to discuss
frameworks and strategies for the cloud, management, and administration of the cloud,
different vendor options for the cloud, and how to integrate the cloud into the organization.
They will also communicate technology cloud strategies concisely to a general business
audience.
BADM 7501 – Cyber Security Risk Management
Cybersecurity frameworks; cybersecurity governance; cybersecurity and privacy regulations;
intrusion techniques; cybersecurity incident response reports; National Institute
for Science and Technology (NIST) methodology for IT system risk assessments, NIST
assessment methodology.
BADM 7502 – Information Systems Security
Networking technology basics; Information Systems Life Cycle; Information assets;
business continuity and disaster recovery plans; IS audit standards; IT governance;
IT auditing software tools (Excel, ACL, IDEA, etc).
BADM 7503 – Advanced Topics in Cyber Security Risk Management
ISDS 7301 – Descriptive Analytics
Data warehousing; use of big data in business; storage and retrieval of data in business;
descriptive analytics for business; business intelligence tools.
ISDS 7302 – Predictive Analytics
Predictive analytics in business; business cases in predictive analytics; data mining
use in business; industry solutions for predictive analytics.
ISDS 7303 – Analytic Methods
Advanced analytics in business; designed experimentation; regression trees; causal
